Children who attend the SLCN Centre are enrolled in a mainstream class in Echelford School, and they are included in class activities wherever appropriate.

In addition children receive specialist support according to their needs. This could include:

  • Extra support in their mainstream class
  •

  • Specialist teaching in The Centre - for example, small groups for literacy, vocabulary learning, social skills and maths
  •

  • Speech and Language Therapy
  •

We also keep in regular contact with parents of children in The Centre.

How does my child get a place?

How does my child get a place?

Children are offered a place at the SLCN Centre through the Surrey County Council Special Needs Panel.

This Panel includes professionals such as case officers, Educational Psychologists, Speech & Language Therapists and representatives from the Specialist Provisions in Surrey.

Children discussed at this panel must be in Year 2 and have a statement of Special Educational Needs, with speech, language and communication skills as their main area of need.

Parents are welcome to come and visit The Centre to help them make a decision over whether to accept the place.
